How did we get here? Part 3...
Ok, we were going to make this work. After the RV show and visiting a few more dealerships, we found that we liked the Highland Ridge product called the Open Range. They had a couple of models that were relatively light to tow and both had great bunkrooms, common space and thoughtful amenities to keep mama comfy and happy at camp. After our conversations with owners we realized we were going to need a different truck to tow either unit safely and responsibly. We sold our F150 and contacted my childhood friend, Roy who sells trucks in south Texas. We strive to support small business and people we know when we can so it was important to me to patronize his dealership if we could and, luckily, he found us a gorgeous F250 with a generous towing capacity. It even had creature comforts of its own. If we were going to pull a trailer, at least I could enjoy heated and massaging seats on the long trips. I had no idea they made pickup trucks this well-appointed and did start to do the math on the cost of this added to the trailer...hmmm, we are getting into luxury coach territory again on cost but I held my tongue and rolled with it. It was done and we were another step closer to RVing.
Now that we had a couple of models that were narrowed, we knew we were almost ready to take the plunge. I loved that both had a nice-looking U-Shape Lounge similar to a sectional for your home living room. They both had nice trims with nickel faucets (I did not like the plastic versions in the bath or kitchen and this was also important to me), kitchen islands and even a farm-style sink. For a "trailer house" I was pleased with the feel and guess what? We even had the option to have a washer/dryer included. Yep, this has gone from camp to glamp which is just fine by ME!
After over a year of searching, sweating it out walking through HUNDREDS of units, countless hours online researching and watching every RV show created, we had FINALLY made our decision. We were going with the Highland Ridge, Open Range 312 BHS (this means Bunk House with SLIDE - There is a whole glossary of definitions of model numbers you'll soon learn if shopping for RVs).
After a little negotiating, adding a few options like TVs in the bedrooms, a bike rack and the WASHER/DRYER, we FINALLY did it. We bought our first RV!!!!
