Tin Turtles...it's what's for supper!
Tin Turtles…the name itself is just FUN! Here’s a little nostalgia for you along with some delicious ideas to get the whole family in on tonight’s campfire supper.
When I was about 8 or 9 years old, I participated in a 4-H outing in my hometown in South Texas. The leader walked us through a meal prep that allowed us to customize our individual lunch then cook it over an open fire. i thought it was the best thing ever and I’ve never forgotten the experience or how delicious it was. Last week, while camping at Mill Creek Resort in Canton, Texas, I decided it was time to share this piece of my past with my own family.
This is what I did to prepare:
I bought several protein varieties including chicken breast, shrimp and beef fajita cuts along with onions, peppers, potatoes, squash, corn and tin foil of course.
I diced the meats and veggies and each family member added what they preferred to a sheet of tin foil. We tossed in varies spices, sauces, salt and pepper. We wrapped each in a tight pouch, wrote our names on our designated packet with a sharpie and tossed on hot coals for 20-30 minutes. It’s really as easy as that.
